Abstract

India’s youth face escalating mental health challenges due to academic pressure, job uncertainties, family expectations, and shifting social dynamics. However, stigma, financial barriers, and inadequate mental health infrastructure prevent many from seeking professional help. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative tool in addressing these challenges by providing accessible, cost-effective, and stigma-free mental health support. AI-driven chatbots, virtual therapy models, and crisis intervention tools offer immediate emotional support, personalized self-help strategies, and early detection of psychological distress. While AI enhances accessibility and affordability, ethical considerations such as data privacy, cultural sensitivity, and the need for human intervention must be addressed. A hybrid approach integrating AI with professional mental health services can optimize care delivery, ensuring a more inclusive and effective mental health ecosystem. By leveraging AI within public health initiatives and educational frameworks, India can build a resilient youth population, aligning with the vision of Vikshit Bharat@2047.
