Abstract

Green chemistry has emerged as a transformative approach in pharmaceutical manufacturing, focusing on minimizing environmental impact, enhancing process efficiency, and promoting sustainability. Traditional pharmaceutical production often involves hazardous reagents, high energy consumption, and large volumes of waste, posing significant ecological and economic challenges. Green chemistry principles address these concerns by incorporating environmentally benign solvents, catalytic reactions, bio-based raw materials, and energy-efficient processes. Innovations such as continuous manufacturing, solvent recovery, enzymatic catalysis, and flow chemistry have significantly improved the sustainability of drug production. Additionally, regulatory frameworks and industry collaborations play a crucial role in driving the adoption of green chemistry practices. This paper explores various green chemistry strategies employed in pharmaceutical manufacturing, their benefits, and the challenges in their large-scale implementation. By integrating these sustainable practices, the pharmaceutical industry can reduce its carbon footprint, enhance cost-effectiveness, and contribute to global environmental conservation.
