Abstract

The mental health of university students is becoming an even bigger issue, especially since they go from being teens to adults and deal with new challenges in life. This period, when you have a lot to learn, make new friends, and go through new feelings, can be really important for figuring out who you are, but it can also be harder for your mental health. In India, about 30% of college students say they have some serious levels of anxiety or difficulty coping with pressures. This chapter looks at how common mental health issues are among students, what risk factors might be involved, and what things make it less likely, as well as suggesting some practical ways universities can help keep mental health strong. It looks at factors related to emotional, social, academic, and physical health, always stressing the need for support from the school. Evidence-based methods like teaching and learning about depression, mindfulness, and talking to a counsellor are helpful ways to deal with these problems. The chapter also points out that universities should use a wider, long-term strategy for mental health, making sure to both help students stay healthy and provide support when needed. By making universities welcoming and helpful places, schools can help students do well in their studies and also feel good about them.
