Abstract

This study examines National Education Policy NEP 2020 and its focus on Early Childhood Care and Education ECCE. The rationale for prioritizing training and sensitizing pre- school teachers will be explored. Economic disparity in the Indian society seeps into the education system, especially in pre-school education. NEP 2020 endeavours to bridge the gap and be at par with global research’s focus on brain development of young children in early childhood. Interviews of a small section of pre-school teachers and administrators from both Private and Government schools of Kolkata, West Bengal, feature their perspectives on the current scenario.
