Abstract

This chapter explores the evolving role of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in India's education sector, with a focus on ensuring sustainability, building consensus, and strengthening institutional resilience. Tracing the policy context from colonial times to post-liberalization reforms, it examines how PPPs have emerged as strategic tools to address resource constraints, improve service delivery, and foster innovation. The analysis covers various models of educational PPPs—including infrastructure development, school management, and digital learning partnerships—highlighting their impact on access, quality, and equity. This chapter further assesses the successes and limitations of PPPs, emphasizing challenges. Finally, the paper concludes with actionable policy recommendations and how PPPs can be designed and managed to support resilient and equitable education systems in India facing similar structural challenges.
