SPIRITUALITY AS TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE IN ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS: LEGAL AND ETHICAL PERSPECTIVES

Abstract

The study examines critically the attempts to integrate spirituality as the traditional knowledge in academic institutions and the legal and ethical concerns surrounding the process of the said integration. The modern-day literature is developing the theme of spirituality as a phenomenon independent of religion, and becomes increasingly appreciative of the role it plays in the human thinking and well-being. Still, official academic environments often isolate these types of knowledge. Here, the paper provides analysis of theoretical frameworks used to explain spirituality as a concept in academia, a survey on legal precedence which acknowledges spirituality and existing practices of various institutions belonging to different nations regarding the inclusion of spirituality. With regard to the findings, it can be seen that there are still barriers on the way but one can still implement education growth on inclusion and the use of culture sensitive policies. These things will bring benefits to the institution, pluralism, and holistic development of human beings.
