USE OF STANDARDIZED ASSESSMENT TOOLS FOR KNEE JOINT PATHOLOGY IN PHYSIOTHERAPY PRACTICE: A NARRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract

This narrative review explores the use of standardized assessment tools in physiotherapy for knee joint pathologies. A literature search was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, PEDRO, and CINAHL to identify peer-reviewed studies focusing on standardized tools used in clinical knee assessment. Fourteen relevant studies were included and synthesized thematically. Tools such as the KOOS, WOMAC, Lysholm Score, and VAS were consistently reported as reliable and clinically useful. Despite their benefits, their use in practice remains inconsistent due to barriers such as limited time, lack of training, and restricted access. Facilitators included structured training and tool integration into clinical guidelines. Emerging technologies like tele-rehabilitation and 3D imaging were also highlighted. Standardized tools support effective physiotherapy management of knee pathologies. Wider adoption may be achieved through improved training, simplified tools, and integration into routine clinical practice.
