Abstract

Psychology is a multifaceted discipline that explores the complexities of human behaviour and mental processes. In order to comprehend how people interact with their surroundings and the underlying reasons behind their behaviours, it includes the study of both visible behaviours and interior cognitive processes. To investigate behaviours, psychologists use methodical, objective techniques that include both overt behaviours (such facial expressions) and covert cognitive processes (e.g., thoughts and feelings). This chapter examines the many moral dilemmas that modern psychologists face in practical settings, clinical practice, research, and teaching. In addition to discussing emerging issues like digital therapy, artificial intelligence in mental health, neuroethics, and the appropriate use of large data, it looks at conundrums pertaining to confidentiality, informed consent, professional competence, dual relationships, and cultural sensitivity. The conflict between upholding one's professional ethics and adjusting to the changing demands of society is highlighted in the conversation. The work emphasizes the significance of ongoing ethical awareness, critical thinking, and professional accountability while being rooted in well-established ethical frameworks and mindful of emerging realities. In the end, the book offers academics, professionals, and students’ guidance on resolving moral dilemmas while promoting social justice, trust, and wellbeing in psychological practice.
