Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming higher education by helping to create individualized models of learning that address the needs and capabilities of individual learners. As organizations abandon standardized methods of instruction, AI programs like adaptive learning systems, recommendation engines, intelligent tutoring systems, learning analytics and natural language processing can enable delivering customized content, predicting student achievement, and giving feedback in a timely manner. Such applications have the potential to enhance interaction, inclusion and academic performance. Nonetheless, the increasing application of AI provides issues regarding data privacy, biases in the algorithm, institutional preparedness, and as well as ethical use of student data. This chapter focuses on the key AI technologies that support personalized learning, their advantages, and how they can be applied in higher learning. It also describes the existing problems and future trends, such as the growing value of generative AI and the necessity to implement it as a responsible and learner-centered tool.Published
