Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has reshaped educational systems worldwide, moving learning from traditional classrooms to open, technology-enabled environments. Two major innovations accelerating this shift are Open Educational Resources (OER) and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). These models expand access, support self-directed learning, and provide flexible, cost-effective opportunities for diverse communities. Rooted in the principles of openness, collaboration, and digital innovation, OER and MOOCs strengthen digital pedagogy by democratizing knowledge production and distribution. This chapter explores their conceptual foundations, pedagogical relevance, implementation strategies, and emerging challenges. It further analyses how these digital models promote educational equity and transform teacher–learner relationships in contemporary academic ecosystems.
