STRESS, ANXIETY, AND THEIR IMPACT ON LEARNING

Stress and anxiety are becoming very rampant in learning institutions and bring serious restrictions and hindrance in learning and academic performance. Attention, memory, and executive functioning are cognitive processes on which learning relies and are very vulnerable to psychological distress. This paper discusses how stress and anxiety influence the learning process based on study material in psychology, neuroscience, and education research literature. The developmental disparities in childhood, adolescence, and higher education with some contributors of psycho-social and environmental elements have also been considered. The mutual dependency between mental health and academic achievement is pointed out. Timely identification, interventions, and organizational responsibility have been reviewed in this paper as improving psychologically supportive learning environment.Published
