WOMEN EDUCATION IN DIFFERENT AGES: A JOURNEY FROM HIGH ESTEEM TO EQUALITY

In ancient Indian society, women were given esteemed position. They were considered on the same pedestal as the men folk of their time. There was no discrimination on the bases of physical appearance, education and gender, instead women were honored by the society. The women were considered as mother figures and in Hindu scripts women are considered as Devi. They used to experience their basic rights where they were free to receive education. Married women were referred as ‘Ardhangini’ and the wife of rishis, also participated in several religious rituals. Women were educated. Women were trained as warriors. Several texts have many references where women were found to hold the position of bodyguards of the king and queen. The paper has made a humble attempt to delve in women education in different era.Published
