The preservation and promotion of indigenous languages become increasingly important in the context of globalization and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. These languages represent distinct knowledge systems and identities that are rich in cultural, historical, and ecological significance. However, preservation is hampered by issues arising from historical, social, resource, and institutional limitations; digital media technology therefore becomes a crucial instrument in this endeavour. The importance of social media technology in the preservation of indigenous languages is carefully examined in this chapter. This chapter explores the role of social media as a contemporary tool for indigenous knowledge sharing and preservation and how platforms such as you tube, facebook, twitter and google docs facilitate documentation, community engagement and global visibility of indigenous practice.Published
