IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE

Indigenous knowledge systems are born from real-life experiences and practices that have been formed by relationships and processes of learning and living within Indigenous communities. In the era of the evolution of digital technologies and their use through different forms of media and communication tools, social media is known to influence Indigenous knowledge systems and their communication processes. This chapter will emphasize on the role of social media in regulating Indigenous knowledge systems and their use in contemporary contexts, considering aspects such as continuity of culture and knowledge, learning across generations, and ethical considerations and practices. Furthermore, it will discuss health and health-related fields like physiotherapy, considering Indigenous movement practices and their use of digital platforms to deliver about health. Indigenous viewpoint on learning and teaching will also be included in the chapter. It will also focus on the commonly faced challenges such as knowledge sharing without consent from Indigenous communities, even though it can assist in reviving culture and languages and providing health education within Indigenous communities.Published
