EVOLUTION OF DIGITAL WELL-BEING IN SCHOOLS: A REVIEW OF THREATS AND INTERVENTIONS

There has been a radical transformation in teaching and learning paradigms due to the swift merger of digital technologies into educational environment. This rapid integration and use of digital technology have changed the way how human communicate and interact. With the onset of digitalization in educational settings, it has come with its own set of challenges. This chapter will navigate through the multifaceted concept of digital well being and its responsible use across various stages of educational settings. The central issue highlighted here is the use of “mobile phones”, that acts both as boon and bane for the students. The major objective of the study includes the analysis of the conceptual foundations of digital well-being, evaluate its psychological and psychosocial impact and assess the efficacy of digital self-control and digital wellness. Various literature reviews has showed that self-monitoring tools generate short term effects in lowering the technology overuse. Controlled digital use requires strict supervision and multiple strategies to reduce the screen-time for attaining the digital well-being. In educational settings, policy makers, educators and parents play crucial role in maintain the digital use by the students. This chapter will deliver the actionable recommendations to influence the controlled use of digital devices and maintain the digital well-being of an individual.Published
