INTEGRATING ARTS AND CREATIVITY IN STEM CURRICULUM

Abstract

This chapter highlights how adding arts to STEM subjects can make education more interesting. When arts are combined with STEM it becomes STEAM. STEAM helps students think creatively which an important skill in today’s world is. Students need to be able to think to solve problems that are happening all over the world. The world is changing fast because of technology. STEM subjects help students solve real-life problems. They often do not focus on creative thinking. STEAM tries to add thinking to STEM subjects. It does this by combining subjects like science and math with arts. Some ways to add arts to STEM subjects are project-based learning and design-based learning. These ways make STEM subjects more fun and interesting. They also help students use what they learn in real-life situations. New technologies like intelligence and virtual reality can also make learning more fun. Changing from STEM to STEAM is not easy. Schools have rules, about what students learn. They also do not have money or teachers who know how to teach arts. So, schools need to make changes to their teaching methods. They need to train teachers to teach arts and creative thinking. This will help students learn in a creative way.
