Abstract

Technology-enhanced physiotherapy has emerged as a transformative approach in modern rehabilitation, integrating digital innovations such as tele-rehabilitation and virtual therapy to improve accessibility, efficiency, and patient outcomes. Tele-rehabilitation enables remote delivery of physiotherapy services through video conferencing, wearable devices, and mobile applications, reducing geographical and logistical barriers. Virtual therapy, including virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), enhances patient engagement by creating immersive and interactive therapeutic environments. These technologies facilitate real-time monitoring, personalized exercise programs, and data-driven decision-making, thereby improving adherence and clinical outcomes. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly accelerated the adoption of these technologies, highlighting their potential in ensuring continuity of care. However, challenges such as digital literacy, data privacy concerns, infrastructure limitations, and lack of standardized protocols persist. This manuscript explores the concepts, clinical applications, benefits, limitations, and future directions of tele-rehabilitation and virtual therapy in physiotherapy practice. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based outcomes and integration into healthcare systems. Technology-enhanced physiotherapy represents a paradigm shift toward patient-centered, accessible, and innovative rehabilitation services.
