INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS AND EDUCATIONAL TRANSFORMATION: ALIGNING ANCIENT WISDOM WITH NEP 2020

Abstract

Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) represent an integrative as well as holistic framework of knowledge encompassing science, ethics, philosophy, and education. In recent years, there has been increasing recognition of the need to inclusion of indigenous knowledge into contemporary education to promote and emphasize meaningful and value-oriented learning in education. The National Education Policy 2020 promotes the integration of Indian Knowledge and tradition into the curriculum of present Education system. This study is done to examine the conceptual foundations of IKS and analyze their alignment with NEP 2020. This work involves a qualitative, conceptual, and analytical approach based on secondary sources. It emphasizes the key dimensions such as ethical orientation, holistic development, interdisciplinary knowledge, and experiential learning. A comparative analysis reveals that many principles of NEP 2020 are deeply rooted in traditional Indian education. This chapter also offers a critical analysis of the implications of pedagogy and its challenges in implementation. It concludes that integrating IKS with modern educational practices can foster culturally grounded, ethically responsible, and globally competent learners.
