Abstract

Education plays a vital role in shaping individuals and society. However, modern education is often criticized for focusing narrowly on academic achievement, standardized testing, and employability, neglecting the holistic development of students. In contrast, the ancient Indian Gurukul system emphasized intellectual, physical, emotional, moral, and spiritual growth. This study examines the concept of holistic education in the Gurukul system and evaluates its relevance in contemporary education. Using a qualitative and analytical approach, the paper highlights key features such as experiential learning, value-based education, and strong teacher-student relationships. It argues that integrating these principles into modern education can help address issues like stress, lack of values, and limited personal development. The study concludes that combining traditional wisdom with modern practices can create a more balanced and effective education system.
