ADVANCEMENTS IN DIGITAL EDUCATION AND E-LEARNING IN PHYSIOTHERAPY

Transformations in digital technologies have altered the education of many healthcare professions, including physiotherapy, for the better. Construction and application of digital education and e-learning have become indispensable. This chapter analyses the advancements of digital education and e-learning in physiotherapy. It places a focal point on the application of tel-education platforms, application of learning simulation, virtual and augmented reality, telehealth, mobile learning, and artificial intelligence. It also analyses accessibility, engagement, and reasoning in the context of evidence-based practice and proficiency, lifelong education, and continuous development. It also focuses on the additional stimulus of the COVID-19 pandemic, which created flexible educational models in healthcare across the globe. Finally, the chapter explores the utility issues of digital education and learning gaps, psychomotor skills in support of teaching, digital literacy, faculty preparedness, and the lack of global standards in online physiotherapy education.The chapter examines the current evidence on the impact of digital methods of learning on educational outcomes and the development of clinical competencies. It also offers insights into the future of sustainable digital integration in physiotherapy. It aims to create a balance between new technology and practical clinical teaching to prepare physiotherapists to meet new demands of the healthcare industry.Published
