Abstract

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have emerged as transformative technologies in the fields of health science and education. These immersive technologies provide interactive and simulation-based learning experiences that improve clinical understanding, practical skills, and learner engagement. VR creates fully digital environments that enable students and healthcare professionals to practice procedures, surgeries, and patient interactions without real-world risks. AR, on the other hand, overlays digital information onto real-world settings, enhancing visualization and supporting real-time learning. The integration of VR and AR in medical and health science education contributes to safer training environments, improved retention of knowledge, and enhanced decision-making abilities. These technologies are also increasingly used in patient rehabilitation, mental health therapy, anatomy learning, and remote healthcare training. Despite their numerous benefits, challenges such as high implementation costs, technological limitations, and ethical concerns remain significant barriers. This chapter examines the role, applications, benefits, and limitations of VR and AR in health science and education while highlighting future opportunities for innovation and global healthcare advancement.
