Abstract

The intellectual landscape of contemporary healthcare sciences education has undergone a profound pedagogical transition from passive knowledge acquisition towards immersive, competency-oriented, and experientially grounded models of learning designed to cultivate clinical excellence and patient-safe practice. In this context, immersion pedagogy has been identified as an innovative approach that prioritizes reflection, contextuality, and authentic participation in a clinical environment through technology-based and simulation-based environments. The inclusion of technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and immersive simulations has revolutionized healthcare education by facilitating dynamic interaction with intricate clinical situations in a safe and intellectually stimulating environment. Current scholarship suggests that immersion pedagogy helps enhance clinical reasoning, psychomotor skills, spatial orientation, therapeutic decision-making skills, and professional confidence among healthcare professionals. In the specific case of physiotherapy and rehabilitation sciences, immersion pedagogy can assist in developing movement analysis skills, neuro-rehabilitation training, motor learning skills, and therapeutic plan development. Despite existing barriers in terms of technological access and pedagogical readiness, immersion pedagogy stands out as one of the milestones achieved within the field of healthcare education and symbolizes the larger shift in the direction of intellectually challenging, technology-intensive, and learner-centric clinical education.
