Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has significantly transformed contemporary education by reshaping teaching methodologies, learning environments, and teacher roles. Digital pedagogy has emerged as an essential framework that integrates technological tools, innovative instructional strategies, and learner-centred approaches to enhance educational effectiveness. This paper examines the significance of digital pedagogy and online teaching competencies required by educators to successfully navigate technology-mediated learning environments. The study explores how teachers’ digital literacy, technological knowledge, pedagogical skills, and adaptability influence the quality of online teaching and student engagement. A qualitative descriptive research approach based on existing literature was adopted to analyse emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities associated with digital teaching practices. Findings indicate that effective online teaching requires a balanced integration of technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge, along with continuous professional development. The study highlights the need for systematic teacher training programmes to strengthen digital competencies and promote inclusive, flexible, and sustainable learning environments in the digital age.
