Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming teacher education by reshaping how future teachers learn, teach, and make professional decisions. From AI-powered tutoring systems and automated feedback to data analytics for personalized preparation and virtual simulations for clinical practice, AI offers unprecedented opportunities to enhance efficiency, equity, and access in teacher preparation programs. However, this technological acceleration also raises profound questions about the role of human values in education. As algorithms increasingly mediate teaching and learning, concerns about algorithmic bias, data privacy, surveillance, and the erosion of teacher autonomy and professional judgment have come to the forefront. There is a risk that an uncritical adoption of AI may prioritize technical efficiency over ethical considerations such as care, empathy, equity, cultural responsiveness, and democratic participation — values that are central to quality teacher education. This paper examines the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and human values in teacher education, arguing for a balanced approach that integrates innovation with ethical responsibility. It first maps key AI applications and opportunities in teacher preparation. Then, it critically analyses the ethical challenges and equity implications of AI integration. Finally, it proposes strategies for responsible adoption, including policy frameworks, AI and data literacy for teacher educators, participatory design with stakeholders, and school-university partnerships grounded in human-centered principles. The paper concludes that for teacher education to remain relevant in a digital future, it must cultivate not only technically competent teachers, but also educators who can critically evaluate, ethically use, and humanize AI in service of just and inclusive learning. Achieving this requires moving “beyond tools” to position AI as a partner that amplifies, rather than replaces, human judgment and values.Published
