IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN TEACHER TRAINING: A THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in education, significantly influencing teacher training by enhancing instructional practices, professional development, assessment, and educational leadership. AI-powered technologies such as intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning platforms, generative AI tools, learning analytics, and virtual simulations are reshaping how teachers acquire knowledge and develop professional competencies. Teacher training programmes are increasingly integrating AI to promote personalized learning, data-driven decision-making, digital pedagogy, and continuous professional growth. However, the adoption of AI also raises concerns regarding ethical use, data privacy, algorithmic bias, digital inequality, and teachers' preparedness to effectively utilize AI technologies. This theoretical paper examines the concept of Artificial Intelligence in teacher training, its major applications, impact on teacher competencies, opportunities, challenges, strategies for effective implementation, and its relevance in the context of India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The paper concludes that AI should be viewed as a supportive partner that enhances rather than replaces the professional role of teachers.
