Abstract

Teacher education has undergone substantial changes in recent years as education systems increasingly emphasize evidence-based teaching, innovation, digital technologies, inclusive instructional practices, reflective learning, and continuous professional growth. Preparing teachers for modern classrooms requires more than theoretical knowledge; it demands the ability to interpret research, evaluate evidence, and apply effective teaching strategies that respond to diverse learning needs. Research-informed teacher education bridges the gap between educational research and classroom practice by encouraging teachers to make instructional decisions based on credible evidence, professional expertise, and the specific needs of their students. Rather than relying solely on traditional teaching methods, educators are encouraged to adopt innovative approaches such as action research, lesson study, collaborative inquiry, simulation-based learning, microteaching, technology-enhanced instruction, artificial intelligence (AI)-supported professional development, and evidence-informed decision making. This chapter explores how integrating research into teacher education can strengthen both pre-service preparation and ongoing professional development. It highlights the importance of reflective practice, mentorship, digital technologies, inclusive education, and continuous learning while presenting practical frameworks that help translate research findings into everyday teaching. Ultimately, the chapter argues that effective teacher education should be context-sensitive, ethically responsible, collaborative, and focused on improving both teaching quality and student learning. Building a culture of inquiry within teacher education institutions can foster professional competence, innovation, autonomy, and sustainable educational improvement.
