Abstract

Teacher education plays a pivotal role in shaping competent educators who can effectively lead educational institutions in an era of rapid social, technological, and pedagogical transformation. Beyond developing instructional expertise, teacher education equips prospective and practicing teachers with leadership competencies such as decision-making, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, innovation, and ethical responsibility. These competencies are essential for fostering school improvement, enhancing student learning outcomes, and promoting organizational effectiveness. This theoretical paper examines the relationship between teacher education and educational leadership by discussing key concepts, dimensions, leadership theories, and the impact of teacher education on leadership development, challenges, strategies for improvement, and implications in the context of India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The paper concludes that strengthening teacher education is fundamental to developing future educational leaders capable of transforming schools into inclusive, innovative, and learner-centered institutions.
