Rural and remote schools are vital for ensuring equitable access to quality education, yet they often face challenges such as teacher shortages, geographical isolation, inadequate infrastructure, limited professional development, multilingual classrooms, multigrade teaching, and weak digital connectivity. Addressing these challenges requires teacher education systems that respond directly to the realities of rural and remote contexts. Teachers need competencies in multigrade classroom management, inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy, community engagement, low-cost resource development, appropriate technology integration, and professional resilience. This chapter examines key barriers affecting teacher education in underserved regions and discusses strategies for strengthening pre-service and in-service preparation. It emphasizes rural teaching internships, continuous professional learning, mentoring, peer collaboration, professional learning communities, technology-enabled education, community participation, and supportive policies. An integrated framework is proposed to align teacher recruitment, induction, professional development, evaluation, and retention with local educational needs, ultimately enhancing teacher competence, motivation, retention, school quality, and student learning outcomes.Published
