Abstract

The emergence of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is transforming education by changing how knowledge is accessed, produced, communicated, and evaluated. Unlike earlier technologies that mainly provided access to predetermined information, GenAI can generate explanations, questions, examples, feedback, lesson materials, and alternative solutions through interactive dialogue. This chapter argues that the educational significance of artificial intelligence should be understood through human–AI collaboration rather than technological substitution. Human–AI collaboration refers to a purposeful process in which learners and educators combine human judgement, creativity, contextual understanding, and ethical reasoning with AI’s generative and analytical capabilities. The chapter examines transformations in learner and teacher roles, knowledge co-construction, cognitive augmentation, pedagogical co-design, and assessment. It proposes a Human–AI Collaborative Educational Framework based on five principles: human agency, AI augmentation, critical verification, dialogic co-creation, and ethical accountability. The chapter concludes that meaningful educational transformation will occur when human and machine capabilities complement each other while humans retain responsibility for educational purposes and decisions.
