Abstract

Anatomical sciences are considered an essential aspect of health education, as they provide the structure that is necessary in understanding how the human body functions, along with illness, diagnosis, and treatment. The methodology of teaching anatomy changed significantly over time. Anatomical teaching passed through various stages; from early observations and teachings through authority figures, it underwent systematic dissection, structured cadaveric education, and clinically integrated approaches, deriving its current form and importance. This chapter describes the development of anatomical knowledge throughout various educational levels. The authors discuss the historical aspects of anatomy teaching and its origins, as well as how teaching methods changed during Renaissance through the introduction of the concept of direct dissection and observation, standardization of cadaver-related education in the mid-twentieth century, and the emergence of digital technologies. Additionally, the chapter lists the importance of anatomical knowledge in various aspects of clinical practices. It concludes with the discussion of current challenges that are faced by contemporary anatomical educators.
